OUR HISTORY

Starting a business

Soon after his arrival in the US, our founder, Moses, wanted to get to work. Having purchased a hand cart he realized that he could make a little more money on the product if he were a middleman buying and selling the product. So having befriended the salesmen at the sugar and flour companies that he worked with the most, he started to buy flour and sugar from them and sell it to the bakeries that he used to courier the product for.

David Rosens Background

David Rosen was born in Poland and was in the Polish Cavalry when World War 2 broke out. When he saw his friends get slaughtered by the German Tanks, he realized that Poland had no chance against Germany and ran to the French to continue fighting the Germans. When the French line fell to the Germans, he helped smuggle Jews from France to Spain and Portugal from which they could get on boats out of Europe. He eventually got on a boat to the USA after his sister, who was already in the USA was able to get him a visa.

Growth

As the years went by, the company experienced growth in the local established communities and decided to expand to the Spanish and Italian markets as well. This move proved significant in the timeline of the David Rosen company as it laid the groundwork for the next generation to come on board.

Stuart Takes Over

Following the company's expansion into the Spanish and Italian markets, Stuart, who had spent many years learning the intricacies of the industry from his parents, took over as CEO. With his deep industry knowledge and extensive network of contacts, he oversaw the relocation to the company's largest warehouse yet, a 45,000-square-foot facility in Brooklyn. Here, Stuart introduced new product categories, including foodservice items, paper goods, and an expanded range of freezer products. As the company continued to grow and diversify its offerings, it became evident that Stuart should start preparing the next generation to share in the responsibility of managing New York City's largest bakery supply company.

4th Generation

Out of Stuart and Judy’s three children, the two younger kids (Daniel & Jeremy) joined the company to help their father run the operations as Co-Ceo's of the company with Stuart becoming Chairman. With the addition of Daniel and Jeremy, the company experienced both exponential growth in sales and catalogue of items. This expansion of products set the foundation for Reliable Food Sales to come years later.

Entering the 21st century

As the years progressed and the internet became the new storefront, the seismic shift in how people did their shopping is what gave birth to the E-commerce industry and ultimately the creation of Reliable Food Sales.
